In this case it was good to install (push) the bearing on the wheel side of the shaft. Even the other day I needed to remove a stubborn pulley and it saved me a lot of aggravation. I can’t believe the number of times I have used it since. Earlier this year I bit the bullet and purchased a bearing separator. The bearings on the lower shaft went back together fairly easy. These are fine threads and I don’t know anyone who has one of those.Īny suggestions greatly appreciated. I would simply run a die over the threads and clean them up. If they were a normal thread there would be no problem. I did notice that when I removed the nut on the wheel end of the shaft that I had to turn it off with a wrench all the way to the end. The upper bearings were original with the correct part numbers. They are stamped “Japan” with a number that I can’t read. I could probably drive the bearing off the shaft but will no doubt do serious damage to the threads on the shaft. There are some severe marks on the outside of the bearing that looks like the PO put those bearings on with a punch or something like that. I looked at the threads on the end of the shaft with a magnifying glass and noticed that the threads are about half flattened. The bearing on the wheel end (opposite the pulley) slides about half way over the threads and will not come any further. The bearing on the pulley end came off the shaft with no problem. NEW DAY NEW PROBLEM….oK people….I got the lower shaft and bearings out. I was taking pics with my cell as I went. They go a specific way so when they come out, put them back the same way.
